New members needed as call volume goes up
As the call volume increases, the Fire & Rescue Department continues to look for additional members. Previous firefighting or emergency medical technician training is preferred but not required as training is provided by the department. Complete information on the department can be found on the Newbury Fire & Rescue Department website: www.newburyfd.org, or stop by the safety services building on Tuesday evenings for an application and to talk to a department officer. ~
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel are paid by the Town of Newbury on an hourly basis for each call that they respond to as well as for training and other department duties. Recognizing the time, training and commitment of the on-call firefighters, the selectboard increased the compensation rate at the beginning of the year to more adequately compensate the department personnel, based on responsibility, training, duties and certifications.
