NEWBURY RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT
Nov. 13, 2006
PRESENT:
Peter Newbern, Jane Pratt, Marilyn Hill, Gail Bostic, Bob Morris
MINUTES:
The minutes of the Oct. 16th meeting were accepted as printed.
FARMERS’ MARKET:
Marilyn and a few interested citizens of Newbury met on Nov. 9 to discuss the possibility of holding a farmers’ market in Newbury from June of 2007 through Oct. of 2007. A committee is being formed and committee members are being sought. More information will be available in March before the annual Newbury Town Meeting.
RECREATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:
Marilyn is heading, as I write, to Florida until April. The whole committee would like to congratulate and thank her for a great start to the Newbury Recreation Department. Marilyn and the committee have many ideas for next summer and spring that will be considered as the winter progresses without her.
The 2006 summer and fall seasons are completed. Some new and established recreation programs have been offered: swimming lessons, golf, tennis, hiking, and the concert series. Next summer Marilyn is hoping to offer day camp. The committee will be looking at other offerings as spring approaches.
Skating is an activity that the committee is interested in pursuing. Mark Cashin has discussed creating a rink on the pond behind the Vet’s Hall. We need Mark to bring his ideas to the next meeting.
A women’s wellness luncheon series with guest speakers is tentatively planned for April.
In the spring the recreation committee would like to publish a hiking and cross country skiing trail map for the town of Newbury.
The Newbury Recreation Committee would like to be actively involved in the planning and developing of Fishersfield.
NEXT MEETING:
The next meeting of the Newbury Recreation Committee will be Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at 7:00 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Pratt, clerk
