NEWBURY RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT
Jan. 8, 2007
PRESENT:
Peter Newbern, Jane Pratt, Jay Tucker, Gail Bostic, Bob Morris
MINUTES:
The minutes of the Nov. 13 meeting were accepted as printed.
RECREATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:
Other than those mentioned in the Nov. minutes, no new recreation programs are planned. Peter will contact Marilyn in Florida to check on the wellness luncheon mentioned and any others she had under way before leaving for the South.
A letter will soon be going out to sponsors of the Summer Concert Series soliciting donations from the town. The Newbury Recreation Committee will be responsible for follow-up calls to those businesses that don’t respond in a timely manner.
It was decided that a Hiking /Cross-Country Ski Trail Map offered by the Rec. Committee was unnecessary , as the Newbury Conservation Committee already provides one at a nominal cost.
BUDGET CONCERNS
The bulk of the January meeting was discussion of the Bradford/Newbury /Sutton Youth Sports‘ request to increase its budget allowance by $2500 to a total of $6,000. Jay Tucker made a presentation to the committee, indicating the reasons for the increase. Among the reasons presented were: need for a maintenance facility at Warren Brook Park which will be constructed with donations and a loan, fencing at the field, a well, repairs to the dugouts. After much discussion the committee voted unanimously to support the increase for the 2007 budget year. However, a yearly review of the organization’s request will be built into the recreation committee’s schedule.
NEXT MEETING:
The next meeting of the Newbury Recreation Committee will be Monday, Feb.12, 2007, at 7:00 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Pratt, clerk
