Newbury Recreation Committee Meeting April 23, 2007
NEWBURY RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT
                                                            April 23, 2007

PRESENT:
Peter Newbern, Jane Pratt, Gail Bostic, Bob Morris, Marilyn Hill

RECREATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:
Among the programs and activities discussed:
Farmers’ Market- A farmers’ Market to be held at the Bald Sunapee property from June 29-Oct.5 is moving ahead.  At this time farmers, musicians, and produce vendors are committed.  The project needs a chairman or cochairmen.

Summer Concerts- The summer concert schedule is set.  Letters to previous sponsors are to be sent soon.

Swimming Lessons- Nicole Wallace is all set to teach swimming at the town beach the first two weeks in July.

Golf and Tennis- Golf and tennis lessons for young people at Baker Hill and Mountainside respectfully are in the works.

Ecology Exploration Camp-Linda Ryder, a Fish and Game instructor will offer a day camp at the Fells for 9-12 year olds Aug. 6-10 in the morning.  The cost will be $60 per child with a maximum of 12 campers.

Women’s Wellness Monthly Forum- Marilyn is still working on the programs.

Old Home Day- Discussed were a dunk tank and a community table.  Perhaps we could survey residents in attendance about preferences for winter activities.

BUDGET CONCERNS
Some discussion of the Bradford/Sutton/ Newbury warrant article was held to inform Marilyn of the issue.  She was away for the meeting with Jay Tucker and the town meeting.

Fisher Field

Peter informed the meeting of his attendance at a Conservation Committee walk about on Fisher Field.  A great deal of discussion ensued about the project and its management.  Many of the committee felt uninformed about the project and the latest developments.  The main questions are:
Who will use the facility?
Will it be lit?
Will there be room for community garden plots?
Can we make a horseshoe pit?  volleyball court?
Will there be tennis courts?
What is the time frame for use?
Basically the Recreation Committee has numerous concerns and questions about the construction and use of Fisher Field.  We request a meeting with Mr. Wright, who we have been told, is heading up the project for the selectmen.

NEXT MEETING:
The next meeting of the Newbury Recreation Committee will be Monday, May 21, 2007, at 7:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Jane Pratt, clerk
