NEWBURY BOARD OF SELECTMEN
MINUTES OF JUNE 29, 2009 MEETING
Selectmen: James Powell, Richard Wright and Gary Budd.
Town Personnel: Dennis Pavlicek, Town Administrator; Donna Long, Administrative Assistant; Cal Prussman, Highway Administrator
Public: Charles Hirshberg, Steve Russell, Jeff Merritt of Keach -Nordstrum
The meeting convened at 6:20 p.m.
APPOINTMENTS:
Jeff Merritt of Keach-Nordstrum spoke to the members of the Board regarding the town office parking lot expansion project. He discussed the layout and the design of the proposed parking lot. The Board said the project looked good and that they would like to wait until after Labor Day to begin the work. Merritt said the length of the project should be about two weeks.
Steve Russell, Charles Hirshberg and Cal Prussman met with the Board regarding Sunapee Hills. The Sunapee Hills Association has raised $15,000 to complete necessary tasks for projects in the Chalk Pond area. The Board told Hirshberg and Russell to get together with the Highway Administrator to coordinate what projects should be done and their priorities. Hirshberg said they will be working on drainage issues. There are some culverts that need work. Hirshberg said they are also working on a watershed grant which needs to be submitted by August 19th. Board is in agreement and in support of these projects. Powell told Hirshberg and Russell to keep Prussman up to date on the goings on in their projects.
Prussman discussed some ideas he has for upgrading some of the roads. He said he would like to reclaim a section of Gillingham Road and work on portions of Baker Hill and Newell Road.
NEW BUSINESS:
Pavlicek read a thank you letter from the Community Action Program for the $2,768 given to them for their work
Pavlicek read a letter from the Mountain View Senior Center requesting permission to hold a raffle during Old Home Day. The Board approved this request.
Pavlicek read a letter from the Veterans Memorial Committee. The Board will respond to the committee at a later date.
A letter from the Snowmobile Club was read requesting to hold their annual spaghetti dinner and auction at the fire station on August 1, 2009. The Board approved this request.

Pavlicek mentioned that resident Ken Holmes would like to briefly meet with the Board to discuss a grant that he is working on for funds to be used toward a new fire station. Pavlicek will set up a quick meeting.
A letter from Elizabeth Ashworth was read requesting that the town of Newbury take part in the Small Town Carbon Footprint Calculator. Board members said to let Ashworth pursue this.
The next Green Up day has been changed to July 18th at 8:00 a.m. due to weather forecasts.
NON-PUBLIC SESSION:
The Board voted to go into non-public session under RSA 91-A:3, II, a-e at 6:55 p.m. to discuss a personnel issue. Agreement was reached. The Board came out of non-public session at 7:03 p.m.

PAYROLL & ACCOUNTS PAYABLE: Week ending June 27, 2009 were approved and signed.
MINUTES: Minutes of June 15, 2009 were approved to file.

CURRENT USE: None
TIMBER CUT IN THE BUFFER ZONE: An intent to cut in the buffer zone for David
Rhodes, Map/Lot#16A-347-509 was approved.
