Transfer Station

The Swap Shop at the Newbury Transfer Station is closed until further notice. At this time we are trying to move through the transfer station as quickly as possible and keep our distance from each other. Please do not leave anything in the swap shop area!!

Brush will be accepted at the transfer Station on days and hours that the Transfer Station is open.

You must first go to the Transfer Station with a valid Town Pass and you will be directed to the location for unloading the Brush at Fisherfield.

Leaves are the same, You must go to the Transfer Station with a valid Town Pass and you will then be directed where to dump the leaves again this must be on a day and time that the Transfer Station is open..

Transfer Station permits are now required for entry to the Newbury Transfer Station.

The Transfer Station is now checking for TRANSFER STATION PERMITS. You will need a permit to come into the transfer station. You can obtain your permits at the Town Office, either at the Town Clerk window or the Administrative Assistant window, you will need prove of residency and your vehicle plate number

Transfer Station Permits are required and need to be displayed.

Permits are available at the town office.


Hours of Operation 

Mondays - 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.​​

Wednesdays - 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Saturdays & Sundays - 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Town of Newbury Transfer Station Fee Schedule

Fees apply for disposal of the waste categories below. Fees are paid by cash or check. Please see attendant. 

Construction and Demolition (C&D)

Includes furniture, insulation, painted wood, painted sheet rock, shingles, tar paper, other building materials. C&D waste must be broken down completely. Contractors are encouraged to obtain demo boxes. No box springs, mattress or upholstered furniture is accepted.

FEES:  $30 per half or small pick-up

            $50 per full-size pick-up

            $60 per one-ton truck

Loads larger than a one-ton truck cannot be accepted.


Fee $10 - Stoves, heaters, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, convection ovens, water heaters

Fee $25 - Air Conditioning, Refrigerator/Freezer (doors must be removed), humidifiers

Fee $3   - Propane Tanks (20lbs.)

No fee for disassembled lawn mowers, gas grills and similar small items.

Tires without rims

Fee $3   - Less than 16” 

Fee $10 - 16” and greater 

Tractor tires cannot be accepted.

Electronics (TVs, Computer components)

Fee $10 - TVs & Monitors less than 19”

Fee $20 - Console TVs and screens larger than 19

Fee $5   - Printers, Modems

Fee $10 - Stereo Systems 

Fee $5   - VCRs, table radios, DVD players, satellites, cassette players 

No Fluids are accepted here, including gasoline, oil, antifreeze

Town of Newbury Transfer Station Recycling

There are no fees for disposing of the following materials

Paper Goods

Junk mail, magazines, newspaper, box board, cardboard inserts, telephone books, mixed office and classroom paper, post-it notes, brown bags, fax paper, gift wrapping (non-metallic), 6-pack carriers. 

Do not include - foil products, blueprint paper, juice boxes, carbo paper, milk or dairy containers, waxed or polycoated boxes.


Please flatten cartons and boxes and place them on the pile inside the Transfer Station building.  

Cans and Plastic

Aluminum cans (beer and soft drink) should be placed in the barrelsinside the facility.                     

Tin cans and plastic marked #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) (including milk and water bottles) should be placed in the outdoor free-standing container.  It is not necessary to separate them from tin cans.

Place in barrel, remove corks, lids and screw tops.


Loose leaves (removed from bags or containers) should be placed on the compost pile.  Do not mix with brush or any other type of debris.

Transfer Station Permits


Newbury Residents – Transfer Station Permits will be given at the time of your vehicle registration once your current permit expires.

Taxpayers will need to show a current tax bill to obtain your permit. Also your state car registration will be helpful to obtain the plate number.

As of January 1, 2020, the Transfer Station will no longer be accepting brush and there will be no dumping leaves at Fishersfield. NO BRUSH OR LEAVES WILL BE ACCEPTED AS OF JANUARY 1, 2020.l
